My Story

I’m Malachi Davis. I’m an independent artist that makes music with a story. The music I make could be considered anything from indie punk to rock to pop (or even French pop). I’ve always loved music that tells a story — songs I could lose myself in, imagining the worlds they described. So I make exactly that: stories told through song. These stories are more commonly referred to as concept albums, and I post a new one every six months.

I started making music the moment I touched my family piano. Whether it was theme songs for the characters in the comic books I wrote, parodies of other songs about my Minecraft world, or clumsy piano solos, I was always composing something. My songwriting only compounded from then on. Soon enough, I was making what I considered to be “real music,” something that I would enjoy listening to not for the novelty, but for the quality.

After performing one of these songs I made on stage for a talent show, I was urged by the people in the audience to release the song, and I heard people singing it over and over again without me even needing to be present. This is what prompted me to post my first “album” (it’s technically an EP since it only contains six songs and is only eighteen minutes in length). In the next two and a half years, I posted two albums and six singles.

One of these albums, To Elysium, contained a small story hidden near the end of the album. It only spanned an interlude and two songs (To The Ceiling and I’ve Tried), but this was the first time I tried making something with an interconnected story. This was the moment that I fell in love with concepts. I even released a single after the album as a finale to the story. The next album I released, Incandescent, was entirely interconnected , my first true concept album. Now, I release a new concept album every six months, and I even break them down track by track on my YouTube channel TheMalachiDavis.

Some inspirations for my music are bands such as All Time Low, Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, and Lovejoy, as well as some of the music I grew up with like Linkin Park and Evanescence (and I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve taken some aspects of 2010’s white girl pop). If you like any of these bands or are interested in my story, then be sure to give my music a listen.
